DE-Clutter for (and DURING) the Summer!

Dear Moms,

So, I may or may not have already conveyed that I have developed OCD in the years I have been a mommy...lol but, it has turned out to be something that's been more favorable in my life than not. I say that to say this: when school lets out, I begin to get into Organization Mode. That means, I remove all the winter clothes and pack and label them to be put away, and I rotate out the summer clothes. I also start purchasing school uniforms, backpacks, etc in JULY- that way, by the time school gets started again, I have missed the rush, and I am already done. We buy the last minute items, and the things the kids WANT- versus what they NEED.

In the same vein, I take the summer vacation to get the house, the activities, etc all organized as well. I have the types of children that if they are not given stimulation throughout the day, they will self destruct and go off the rails! I have a very stringent schedule for their downtime. They are up by a certain time, they have breakfast by a certain time, they are dressed and have done their chores by a certain time. I see to it that they have school work time, art time, reading time, and screen time. I have to consciously monitor their activities and see to it that they are neither bored, nor over stimulated. (THAT'S what causes the, "Oh, for f*ck's sake!" moments for me in my house! Not to mention it increases my day drinking!)

Anyway, as I was going through my own home to recenter, and organize what chaos I CAN control... lol I found some really neat ways to keep some of the usual 'Kid Clutter" down, thus keeping everyone happy for the duration of Summer break! Before you get started though, remember that you are an individual and so are your kids. Know your strengths and weaknesses as people and be realistic with YOUR organizing style! Don't think that you have to knock this out all in one day- just set aside a few minutes of the day. It doesn't matter if it's 5 or 45 minutes (hell, it could be during a a kid's nap time, or even while they're on a Timeout! You've got that timer out ANYWAY, right?)

So, these are my MOST LOVED tips for some of the accumulated clutter that Summer vacay can bring! Give them a try and thank me later, I'm sure you will!

SHOE BOXES are great! Shoe boxes are fantastic in my house- along with empty wipe containers... they hold a multitude of Hot Wheels, and Lego men, and army guys! But, you can also CUT these boxes in half (either by length or width) to be used as "Drawer Dividers." They make great little cubicles for bras and undies AND tiny kids clothes!

USE OLD PICTURE FRAMES for messages! That's right....take a really cool patterned fabric or decorate the backing for a photo INSIDE the frame. Then, use a dry erase marker to make notes to the family, or lists that need your attention! This is super cute and super easy to make happen. If you are feeling extra ambitious, try attaching the marker to the frame with a cute piece of yarn, or a whimsical ribbon glued to the back!

VELCRO CAN SAVE YOUR STUFFIES! Yes, Velcro is NOT just for your kid's shoes anymore! Lol- This was a Pintrest idea that managed to become a reality in my own home! The light weight stuffies can get a "lift" (pun intended) by attaching some strips of Velcro to their undersides or backs and the other side of the Velcro to the wall!! (you put the soft side of the Velcro strip to the toys to avoid any ouchies) Keeps the mess off the floor, AND it can give a child's room a whimsical, and ORGANIZED feel!

Until Next Time, keep trying to stay organized- MENTALLY and in the house!
