Back In Action

Dear Moms,

Hey there! How have you been?! It's so good to see you! You're looking good! Have you lost weight? gotten a new 'do? Well, whatever you've been doing, it looks good on you! Keep it up, Honey! Anyway, I am doing the same old same old...hustling, working, looking to make a way in the world. Lol ALL while trying to not screw my kids up COMPLETELY!

So- where do I begin? Let's dive right in with one of my fave things to address here with you guys/gals: (hell, however YOU mother- mother up!) COCKTAILS!! With Mother's Day fast approaching- cocktails for the season will soon be flowing, and hopefully- with reckless abandon!

Yes, hunty- I know how very stressful this whole parenting gig can prove to be, so let's not beat around the bush- no, BAR and let's get to it! It is officially spring and we have just entered into my birth month- so the turn up is underway! I like to find cocktails that either embody the season. Be it, the holidays within, or the season as a whole, I like to FEEL what it is I am drinking!

I have been on the hunt recently for a series of cocktails that feel light, airy and not too alcohol-y. Yes, I made up ANOTHER word, Lol, you get my drift and awaaaaay we go!

This first cocktail comes to us from Martha Stewart, so you KNOW that it's "a good thing!" It's called a: Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail. Lillet Rose is a fortified wine blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscatel. It's a cross of floral and fruity in the aroma department and it's an excellent Spring "starter cocktail!"

*Ingredients: (makes 6 cocktails- adjust measurements to suit your crowd, lol or your individual needs 😏)
  • 12 ounces Lillet Rose
  • 12 ounces Ruby Red grapefruit juice
  • 6 ounces gin
  • 6 edible floral blossoms/ some type of edible garnish
Directions:
  1. Combine 6 ounces of the Lillet, 6 ounces of grapefruit juice, and 3 ounces of gin with some ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Strain and divide the cocktail among 3 stemmed cocktail glasses, like champagne coupes. Repeat.
  2. Garnish with your flowers etc. Serve immediately.

This next drink is courtesy of a Forbes Magazine referral. The drink is from Soloman and Kuff's Rum Hall, and is called a; Telenovela Cocktail. This drink is super simple and a great choice to make at home, It's also made with cilantro, which adds a very spring-like, garden fresh taste. There's also a bit of Tumeric, that has recently become a household name due in part to all of it's highly touted health and beauty benefits.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces Cachaca
  • .5 ounces mezcal
  • .75 ounces simple syrup
  • .75 ounces lime juice
  • 2 bar spoons of passion fruit puree
  • 5 cilantro leaves
Directions:

  1. Add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain the drink into a coupe or even a martini glass (Your choice of stem wear is your own) It was recommended online to use a double strainer to catch the broken up bits of cilantro, but I enjoy them. Then, add the slightest amount of ground Tumeric to the top of the drink, giving it its amazing color and garnish with a cilantro leaf!

The third cocktail of our list is courtesy of Joy Wilson, aka Joy the Baker! This sweet and bubby offering is included in her brunch inspired book, Over Easy. This classic brunch staple, is tweaked a bit by a childhood warm weather indulgence- orange sherbet.
