Surprising Uses For Vinegar

Dear Moms,

Vinegar isn’t just for salad dressing anymore, folks! In fact, vinegar has many uses outside the kitchen. It’s actually a fantastic, money-saving cleaning product! So, if you have a bottle or jug of vinegar at home, you’re all set to clean and shine up your house. From disinfecting rooms to removing ink and carpet stains, vinegar is wildly versatile. Here are 5 surprising ways to use vinegar…

5. Clean your electronics-

Vinegar has a well-known ability to disinfect. You can actually clean your computer, printer, fax machine and other office equipment with plain vinegar and water.

First, unplug all the machines you wish to clean. Next, mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a bucket or spray bottle.

Wet a cloth in the solution and wring it out well. You don’t want water to leak inside your keyboard or computer because that could cause damage.

Wipe all surfaces to get them shining. Use Q-tips for those small or hard-to-reach areas, such as between the keyboard keys.

Make sure to only clean screens if the instruction manual says it’s okay. Also use a soft wipe meant for that purpose.

4. Unclog and deodorize your drains-

Of the many household uses of vinegar, this one is really handy and non-toxic.

To unclog the drain: Pour one-half cup of baking soda and then 1 cup of vinegar down the sink or tub drain through a funnel. If you do not have a funnel, you
can make one using a piece of paper rolled into a funnel.

The mixture will foam up as it unclogs your drain. Think, science fair volcano Drano!

3. Freshen and Deodorize smoke and food smells from rooms-

This may seem counter intuitive, as we all KNOW how vinegar smells! If you just quit smoking or moved into a former smoker's place, trying to remove all evidence can be really difficult because the smell lingers for months on clothes and furniture.

Bring on the vinegar. It can fight cigarette – and evn burnt food – odors.
All you need to do is set out a small bowl filled three-quarters full of white OR apple cider vinegar in the room where the smell is the strongest.

In less than a day, the odor will be gone.

To get rid of the smell of fresh cigarette smoke, just wave a cloth moistened with vinegar around the room to absorb the smell. (You can exercise while you do it! Multitasking at it's finest!)

This technique is more effective (and way more affordable) than buying air fresheners and deodorizers that simply cover up and mask odors instead of removing them.

2.Getting Rid of ink marks-

One of the most useful household uses of vinegar is removing accidental pen marks on your favorite shirt or blouse. You know, it was in your pocket; it was open; now you have a blue/black spot on your boobs...lol

Dab the spots with white vinegar on a sponge. Repeat until the marks are gone.

And there’s no need to worry about ruining the color, since vinegar is used to set colors in new cotton clothing.

Got a young artist child using the walls as a household sized canvas? Don't kill them- just wipe it off with vinegar.

1. Polish Your Copper and Brass-

You can create an affordable vinegar paste to clean brass and copper by combining equal parts white vinegar and salt or baking soda. This is much healthier for your family than the chemicals known for polishing these common household metals.

Use a soft cloth or paper towel to rub the paste into your brass or copper until the tarnish disappears.

Rinse the paste off with cool water and buff to a shine with a soft, clean cloth.

Now that you have these awesome tools, get in there and bust some grime! Drop a comment if you have any other uses for vinegar or if you want to find out some other uses for regular household items.

Until Next Time!!
