What's the Deal with St. Patrick?!?
Dear Moms,
Beware the Ides of March! Lol did I just give you a creepy azz high school literature flashback? Yes? You. Are. Truly. MY people!! No? Well, you are a much better adjusted human being than I. Because, every time I hear that sentence I think (in rapid succession, almost while hyperventilating): Shakespeare, Sophomore World Lit, DID I DO MY HOMEWORK?! π±ππ²
Then, I snap out of it. Realize I have loooong since graduated high school, and my undergrad years. #WHEW Now that I have exposed yet another layer of my mental instability, let's get down to business! This week ushers in St. Patrick's Day! This is the date celebrating one of the patron saints of Ireland who ministered Christianity to the Emerald Isle in the fifth century, St. Patrick.
Here's the download on St. Patrick. First, he wasn't even Irish. It's believed he was Scottish. Even though the actual birth date and locale aren't certain, he was born around 375AD by way of Roman parents (living in Britain) who were charged with governing over the colonies. It's also believed his name was actually Maewyn and he changed it to Patrick after becoming a priest. After receiving a dream, St. Patrick returned to Ireland to again teach and walk amongst the people. St. Patty preached and converted Irish souls to Christianity for over forty years! (yikes! that's a LOT of souls!) Historians believe that St. Patrick died on or around the 17th of March, hence we celebrate him on this day.
We know this day modernly as a day many get extremely drunk, and wear lots of green. In my house it's a day of yummy smells and tastes and I have been scouring the world wide web to find some yummies for you to make for and WITH your family. I can truly say that one of my most favorite things about St. Patrick's Day is corned beef and cabbage. My grandma Dee Dee would make us some of the most delish corned beef! I can merely smell cooking cabbage and I am instantly nine and sooo ready to eat. So, I looked for some recipes both classic and new takes for the entrΓ©e star of the St. Patrick's Day celebration. The first successful stop I made was at Pillsbury! They asked their fans to weigh in and they ranked the top ten corned beef recipes. I had fun looking at and trying the Flaky Reuben Bites! I make wraps of our fave sammies all the time, and this recipe just spoke to me! Easy to make and very tasty, if I do say so myself.
I took another long stroll on the interwebs looking for St. Patrick's Day cocktails. Let me tell ya, the internet knows how to party!! There are like, a gajillion drink recipes JUST for St. Patrick's Day, but I managed to find my friends over at mixthatdrink.com and they laid out 17 different cocktails themed around the day. I am particularly fond of the Emerald Rain. I am actually a fan of Hypnotiq, plus the emerald is my birth stone lol! Another really good one was the Irish Cola. I was surprised at its tastiness even with the cola addition! They also have a layered shooter called The Irish Flag that I simply found aesthetically pleasing- leave me a comment if you give it a try or have given it a try in the past! I'm curious! If you aren't one to imbibe, there is a great special on #hint water! You can save 17% when you order 3 or more cases- PLUS free shipping! Hint is a pure water infused with fruit. ZERO calories. ZERO sugar. ZERO diet sweeteners. Not to mention the #hintFIZZ, #hintCaffeineKICK- go on over and give them a try!
Well, that's it for me guys- have a great, safe, and HAPPY St Patrick's Day!!! Until next time, be good to one another!
