HELP, I AM BREATHING TOO MUCH!!
A Mom to Mom Rant

Dear Moms,

I am at my breaking point and allergy season just got started for me!! Here's the thing, earlier this week I was congested beyond my wildest dreams! I felt like my head weighed a solid ton- only it was accompanied by a feeling that my head was made of lumpy, wet cement! I ran to the store and grabbed Zyrtec, and some basic sinus decongestant. The Zyrtec did NADA on day one- but the off brand decongestant was spot ON! Made me a bit drowsy... I was okay with the naps though, I'm a mom. That means I'm CRAZY- not STUPID! lol

Now, the middle of the week offered a bit of a reprieve and I was able to be a bit more physically active. My head no longer felt like it was made of newly poured sidewalk! Today, Friday the 13th- WITH a full moon tonight; I can't stop breathing! Okay, wait...lol that came out wrong. I am getting so MUCH air, I can't stand it! My face internally actually FEELS cold, because so much air is passing through my airways. My head is pounding because it has been inundated with AIR! What a concept, breathing and all!! Many of us suffer with allergies, and there are tons of products on the market. Below, I give you my top five allergy survival tips!

  • STEAM- Omg, I  love a steamy shower but when I'm congested; that steam is even better!! The moisture in the steam helps to make it easier to blow your nose. Plus, the benefits to your skin are just an added bonus.

  • FLONASE- ($13.99- 22.99 @ Target) Good golly, Miss Molly! This stuff is great, it's a nasal mist that does, well- um good stuff.  Admittedly, I am clueless behind the science of it. I first encountered it when it was prescribed to my son Cyrus. It worked for him for years and now that it's available OTC (over the counter) I get it for myself and the kids. Annually I stock up and I keep one in my purse 24/7. I am NOT always a fan of any residual post nasal drip from the consistent usage I sometimes experience. (My experience is different from yours)

  •  FROZEN VEGGIES- ($1.00 a bag @ Dollar Tree) This may sound super silly, but I am often using frozen veggies as cold packs for my headaches and often neck aches associated with the headaches of my allergies. I love them more than regular ice/cold packs because the cold is usually much more evenly distributed through the peas and broccoli in my opinion. Plus once the headache has passed, half of dinner is ready to be prepared! LOL
  • VICKS INHALER-(3.99 each @ iLoveHerbal) I have always loved the scent of Vicks Vaporub. As a kid, that scent meant I was being taken care of, pampered, spoiled even more that usual!! That scent takes me back to my childhood and I instantly feel better, and sticking that little guy up to my nostril INSTANTLY opens up my nasal passages.

  • ZYRTEC- (18.99 @ Target) 9 times out of 10, Zyrtec is my go to allergy med. It lasts all day, 24 hours people- and it's not accompanied by any freaky sleepiness, or oddball jumpiness like some medications. This last interaction was probably more of a case of sinus inflammation, and that was why I got no relief from it. Again, my experience is different from yours- if you have questions or concerns see your physician or an open door clinic.

Now that I have given you my fail safe tips, I am on my way to my room to get a pair of sunglasses to wear IN THE HOUSE! Yes, I am suffering! I am NOT here for sunlight, since I can't feel my FACE! Grrrrrr... I hope that these tips can bring you solace during this trying time for all of us that suffer. Feel free to add a comment if you have a tip that works to relieve your suffering, I am always looking to add to my Allergen Avoidance Arsenal!

Until Next Time!!
